Today is Sunday six days is left for Saturday to come. Going college at 9:00 AM and returning back to home at 6:00 PM is a tiring job and after coming back home I still have lot of assignments to complete. The way we (students) pursuing the education is so outmoded. We have to sit in the class for continuous one-two hour, without giving a hint to teacher we are not paying attention. Why our education system is confined between four walls of classroom? There is no such thing as practical-based learning. Our education is concerned with memorizing long theories rather than knowing its application and only teach us how-to-pass an exam. Students are judged by division, we get in our mark sheet. Wisdom of students is followed by how much he/she can memorize the long theories and pass the exams.
Nepal established the education system in 1853 and at that time common people were not allowed for schooling. It was only then the establishment of democracy in 1951, which allowed everyone for education. Nepal education system is three-step-tie. The first step is going school for ten years, the second step is studying in +2 level and other is university .i.e. post-graduation. There are many government established education institution which offer courses ranging from school to post graduate program, but offering is not the solution, these institutions do not provide quality education. This force the students to join the private schools and colleges which are highly commercialized. The tuition fees are expensive. To come through a university level for any student it costs a lot. In post graduate level, there are good courses like engineering and medicines, but there are limited seats in government colleges and in private college everyone cannot afford it. Due to this, our nation is suffering from a problem called Brain-Drain.
There is a huge amount of flow of our youths in other countries. They go out either for employment to help family economically or for further studies. The one who goes abroad seeking employment goes to countries like Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Malaysia and other gulf countries where there is a forced-labor work and the one who goes abroad for further studies goes to countries like the United States of America, United Kingdom and Australia. Everyday about 1500 youths fly to abroad. If this trend continues then one day there will be no youths left in the country.
There are certain ways to solve this problem. They are enlisted below:

  • The first solution is establishment of practical-based learning. There should be more field visit learning rather than theoretical based. There is a notion, “If I hear I remember a little, if I see I remember certain but if I experience I remember all.” Likewise, there should be practical learning including Extra Curricular Activities (ECA).
  • There should be options for students. For the one who seeks employment should be provided with technical education and for the other, there should be easy affordable post-graduation program.
  • Improvement of government schools and colleges are the must.
  • The huge amount of education budget should be invested in scholarship offerings. The one who is talented should deserve a scholarship.
  • Every student’s talent must be recognized. If one is good in arts then he/she should get opportunity to enhance his/her skills.

So, there should be broader education where every student’s talent be recognized. Then only nation will get skilled manpower to help with the country’s development.
